Eric Maskin is Albert O. Hirschman Professor of Social Science at the
Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton. Previously he taught at MIT and Harvard
University, where he was Louis Berkman Professor of Economics. Professor Maskin
has worked in many areas of economic theory, including game theory, the
economics of incentives, and social choice theory. His current projects involve
designing auctions, comparing different electoral rules such as majority voting,
understanding the role of monetary policy, and studying the advantages and
drawbacks of protecting intellectual property. He has served as an expert on
auctions to GTE and helped design the UK ETS auction. He received his A.B.,
M.A., and Ph.D. from Harvard University. He won the Nobel Prize in Economics in
2007.
